Five Fun Facts

Oreos

  1. While the original 1912 recipe contained pig lard, modern Oreos do not use animal products.
  2.  Theories suggest it could come from the French word for gold due to early packaging, or the Greek word for mountain, but no one knows for sure.
  3.  Hydrox cookies were released in 1908, making them the original sandwich cookie, though Oreo (released in 1912) became far more popular.
  4.  A high school math class study revealed that Double Stuf Oreos have only about 1.86 to 1.91 times the creme, not the advertised 2.0.
  5.  In 1985, Oreo cookies were on the space shuttle Atlantis, and in 2020, over 5,000 people set a record for simultaneously dunking cookies.
